2008 National PARK(ing) Day Philadelphia
http://blog.parkingdayphilly.com
Saturday, September 27
11am or 11:30am
Park(ing) is a one-day-phenomenon started in San Francisco that is now spreading both nationally and internationally. A collective of artists, activists, businesses and citizens Park(ing) provides a unique opportunity for people to collaborate, not compete, to transform parking spaces around the city into temporary active or passive ‘green’ spaces. The goal is to showcase the possibilities for reducing pollution and land development impacts from automobile use.
Last year there were more than 200 PARKs in over 50 cities worldwide, including:
• 58 PARKs in San Francisco, including 5 Sidewalk Plazas by Public Architecture
• 45 PARKs in Los Angeles
• 25 PARKs in NYC
Help us put PHILLY on the Map!

VIX Emporium:
Artful and Affordable Handmade Gifts
5009 Baltimore Avenue
Open Tues-Sat 11am-7pm
VIX Emporium is a nifty new store for handmade goods, located at 50th and Baltimore in West Philadelphia's Cedar Park neighborhood. Its quirky, eclectic collection of wares, including jewelry, pottery, art, accessories, baby gifts, home accents, cards and paper goods, is made exclusively by independent artisans, designers and craftspeople. Open since November 2007, VIX is rapidly becoming one of West Philly's most interesting places to shop for unique gifts.
Once a ladies' hat shop called J.M. Grumbine Millinery, the vintage 1940's storefront still retains its original built-in lighted cabinetry and wraparound picture window. Display alcoves along the walls are lined with etched mirrors, and beveled glass panels set off the window showcase platform. The shop's owners, graphic artist Sean Dorn and jewelry designer Emily Conroy, thought the space was so special, they named their business after it. "VIX" (with a bar over the V) is the Roman numeral for 5009, the store's street address on Baltimore Avenue. For more information visit www.vixemporium.com or call 215-471-7700.

Well, we still have a few boxes of these fans left. If your church or organization is interested in them, please let us know. Contact mark@ucityphila.org or 215-243-0555 for more information.
