OPERATION: THEFT AWARENESS

Safety & Security is a Shared Responsibility!
The Division of Public Safety, in collaboration with the Undergraduate Assembly (UA), Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA), United Minorities Council (UMC), and Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT), announces the launch of Operation Theft Awareness, a new safety educational initiative that will be in effect from January 30th through April 30th, 2008.

Operation Theft Awareness has been initiated to address the fact that theft constituted approximately 80% of the total reported crimes within the Penn Patrol Zone during the 2007 Fall Semester, and approximately 70% of these thefts were attributed to unattended or improperly secured items.  The items most commonly targeted for theft include laptops, wallets, bikes, Ipods, and other electronics.

Be part of the solution! Our goal is to educate all members of the Penn community and visitors to our University City retail stores and restaurants about the dangers of leaving personal items unattended or improperly secured.  Embrace the idea that ‘Safety & Security is a Shared Responsibility’ and help reduce the opportunity for theft to occur in our community.  Over the course of the next few weeks, you will notice posters and tent cards displayed in buildings and establishments around campus to serve as a reminder to always properly attend to and secure your items.

Please visit the Division’s website for additional information and updates throughout the semester – www.publicsafety.upenn.edu.

SAVE THE DATE:
COMMUNITY CLEAN UP SATURDAY APRIL 12TH

In December we broke records collecting over 3000 bags of leaves and trash. Mark your calendars for the first 2008 community clean up on April 12. Please help us make University City the cleanest neighborhood in Philadelphia.

University City District, in cooperation with the City of Philadelphia, Fairmount Park, CLIP Program and Philadelphia Department of Streets, will assist your block by providing bags, work gloves, and trash and leaf pick up.

For more information or to sign up for the April clean up, please contact Dexter Bryant at dexter@ucityphila.org or 215-243-0555 x239.
