Leaf Collection Plan for University City
Philadelphia, 29 October 2001 -- It's time to get out the rakes! The University City District and the Philadelphia Streets Department, working with representatives from the SHINE Committee (Spruce Hill Interblock Network), Friends of Clark Park, and area community associations, developed this fall's leaf collection plan for University City. Leaf collection will take place from early November to mid-December. All streets will have leaf collection by specially designated trucks on regular trash days. Some streets will also have mechanical leaf collection at specified times (see the schedule below).
Leaf collection
Bagged leaves will be collected by special trucks on the regular trash day. The collected leaves will be used to create free compost that will be available from the Fairmount Park Recycling Center on Ford Road.
- Put leaves in clear plastic bags if possible.
- Leave several feet between leaf bags and trash bags so leaf bags can be easily identified.
- Never mix household trash with bagged leaves.
Mechanical Leaf collection
- Rake the leaves into the street by the curb's edge (piling is not required) just before the scheduled collection day.
- Move your car on collection day so the crews can vacuum leaves along the curb line.
