Tell Them Where To Go ... in University City

Philadelphia, (13 March 2002) --- Tell your friends, relatives, and colleagues where to go in University City:

  • to eat – over 50 restaurants and cafes
  • to stay – 4-star hotels to Victorian bed and breakfasts
  • to shop – shopping districts and markets
  • to park – public parking and public transportation
  • to visit – more than 25 galleries, museums, and performance venues!

The new, lavishly illustrated 30- page University City Visitors Guide to arts, cuisine, accommodations, events, shopping, and strolling will be available at hotels and attractions throughout Greater Philadelphia -- just in time for the 30,000 or so people arriving for University of Pennsylvania, Drexel, and other universities’ graduations.

University City was Philadelphia’s first suburb, and it remains home to distinctive, livable urban neighborhoods of wide porches, tree-lined streets, restaurants, and shops. World-renowned centers of education, medicine, and technology and residents of diverse backgrounds lend University City its intellectual and international flavor. It’s a place to make discoveries off the beaten path: a terrific, haute cuisine but low-key restaurant, a beautifully restored Victorian bed and breakfast your mother will adore; intimate venues to see new visual and performing arts, independent bookstores, ethnic markets, and much more.

Just like Center City, Philadelphia, was renewed in the 1990s, University City’s landscape in the last four years has been transformed. It has more to offer the visitor than ever before, yet it retains its own unique character.

Other pluses for visitors from Queen Village, Queens, NY, or Queensland, Australia: if you lock yourself out of your car or need a jumpstart while in University City, call the number in the Guide for free 24-hour assistance from the UCD and Penn Division of Public Safety. In the Place That Loves You Back™, you’ll find that University City is the neighborhood that loves you back.
