University City Continues Progress

Philadelphia, 9 April, 2003 – What do a cutting edge movie theater, a state of the art public school, and a surging real estate market all have in common? The answer: They’re in University City.

The third annual University City Report Card confirms that this 2.2 square mile section of Philadelphia continues its progress in such areas as real estate, public safety, parking and transportation, and student population growth. Published by University City District (UCD), the Report Card quantifies University City’s economic impact on the Philadelphia region, the high educational attainment of its population, and its diversity. Information about University City’s employment and labor force, commercial development, population, housing, transportation, and arts and entertainment are included. New features in this 3rd edition include major thoroughfare vehicular traffic counts, Keystone Opportunity Zone locations, detailed information on new development, and profiles of new business owners, homeowners, and employees.

Thirty pages of color charts, statistics, and photographs illustrate why University City is one of the most dynamic districts of Philadelphia.

  • A robust real estate market with several major commercial and residential acquisitions and rehabilitations (see pages 9-14, 21);
  • Continued increase in number of students attending University City colleges and universities (see page 8);
  • Significant institutional economic development projects leading to the continued growth of high-skill, high-income jobs for the Philadelphia region (see page 9);
  • Vastly improved education and dining options (see page 17).
Updated annually, the University City Report Card is an invaluable resource for residential and commercial real estate developers, retailers, journalists, realtors, and anyone requiring detailed, up-to-date information about University City. To obtain a copy, contact the UCD by phone at 215 243 0555 or by email. Up to 10 copies are free; for those who require more, a nominal fee will be charged.
