University City District's 4th Annual Report Card Shows Growth in University City Continues
(Philadelphia, PA) – University City continues to experience tremendous, positive growth according to the 4th annual report published by the University City District (UCD), University City’s business improvement district. This report outlines significant progress in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, public safety, transportation, resident and student population growth, and positive public perceptions of the area.
"The Report Card serves as a terrific resource for University City’s institutions, small businesses, realtors, developers, and members of the media. It is the only publication that provides a comprehensive account of everything that is happening in University City," says Eric T. Goldstein, UCD’s Executive Director. It offers information on education, employment, development projects, housing, transportation, and more. Also included in this year’s report is a profile on the new Schuylkill River development along the east side of University City and highlights from a Pennsylvania Economy League study gauging perceptions of University City’s potential as a center of knowledge based economic activity.
In addition, both private and public investment in University City has exploded. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s $650-million expansion will nearly double the size of the Hospital’s main campus, WXPN and World Café Live will soon have a new home featuring state of the art studios, office space and multiple live performance spaces, Brandywine Realty Trust’s Cira Centre, a 28-story Class A office tower is rising adjacent to 30th Street Station, and the University of Pennsylvania has purchased 14-acres from the United States Postal Service to expand University City’s diverse mixed-use residential, commercial and academic community.
33 pages of color charts, statistics, and photographs illustrate why University City is one of the most vibrant districts in Philadelphia. Highlights include:
- University City is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the Philadelphia region;
- Over 25 new retail establishments opened in University City in 2003;
- 67% of University City residents walk or take public transportation to work – almost double the percentage in the City of Philadelphia and four times that of the region;
- Improvements in the national rankings of University City’s world-renowned medical centers and institutions of higher education.To obtain a copy, contact the UCD by phone at 215 243 0555 or by email at ucd@ucityphila.org.
