Cedar Park Neighbors Scholarship Committee Brews Up Fun at Dock Street on May 4

The Scholarship Committee of Cedar Park Neighbors (CPN) is celebrating 20 years of scholarships by hosting a fundraiser at Dock Street Brewery and Restaurant, 701 S50th Street (at Baltimore Ave.) on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Tickets for this event are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Admission includes pizza and beer from 5-7 p.m. There will be a cash bar for one hour, from 7-8 p.m.

You can participate in a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. The silent auction will include a weekend getaway to Jim Thorpe in the Poconos, a professionally designed website, a portrait, and other fun, desirable items. Tickets for the 50/50 are $1 for one, or $10 for an arm’s length. For tickets or more information, contact Laurie Friedman at (215) 747-1910 or by e-mail at lauriefr@msn.com. Come to help others and you may go away a bigger winner!

This fundraiser will be used to offer local students financial assistance to further their education. These scholarships are awarded to high school graduates who live in the Cedar Park neighborhood. Yearly, graduating students who have been accepted to a school for advanced education are eligible to apply for a CPN scholarship. The scholarship is renewable so long as the student maintains good grades.

Abbraccio Restaurant Continues Support for CPN Scholarship Fund on May 9

The Scholarship Committee of Cedar Park Neighbors (CPN) is celebrating 20 years of scholarships by hosting a second fundraiser.

This fundraiser will be held at Abbraccio on Friday, May  9, 2008, from 8-10 p.m. Listen to the acoustic music, enjoy all-you-can-drink draft Yuengling or the house red and white wines  and nibble on bruschetta, dips and nachos. Advance tickets are $25. For tickets or more information, contact Laurie Friedman at (215) 747-1910 or by e-mail at lauriefr@msn.com.

During the year, Abbraccio generously shares its Sunday Brunch profits with local community organizations. The CPN Scholarship Fund will again be a recipient of this generosity. These events help CPN to offer local students financial assistance to further their education. These scholarships are awarded to high school graduates who live in the Cedar Park neighborhood. The student receives the money directly and can choose how to spend the award.

Since 1988, graduating high school students who have been accepted to a school for advanced education are eligible to apply for a CPN scholarship. The scholarship is renewable so long as the student maintains good grades. The committee also tries to send care packages to these students during exam time.

In those 20 years, the CPN Scholarship Program has made 97 awards for a total of $46,550 to more than 45 young neighbors. Scholarships for the 2008-2009 college academic year will amount to approximately $600/student.
