UCD Partners with Mayor’s Citywide Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 5Philadelphia, PA – For University City District’s (UCD) first cleanup of 2008, the special services district is teaming up with Mayor Nutter and the entire City of Philadelphia in an effort to remove over 1 million pounds of litter on Saturday, April 5, from 9am-2pm. During UCD’s previous community cleanup in December, the organization broke records collecting over 3000 bags of trash and leaves, and hopes to build on this success.
UCD’s Executive Director Lewis Wendell added, "When the City's Managing Director's Office invited us to participate, we were eager to collaborate and marshal our resources to coordinate with this city-wide cleanup. UCD is thrilled to partner with the City of Philadelphia in accomplishing the stated goals of making the city cleaner, raising awareness about litter prevention, and instilling neighborhood pride."
“Our plan is to recruit thousands of Philadelphians to help clean major sections of our city; to raise awareness about litter prevention; to instill neighborhood pride and civic responsibility in residents in an effort to keep our city clean each and every day,” said Mayor Nutter in a recent letter to the City’s community partners. As always, UCD will assist University City blocks, block captains and neighbors by providing trash bags, work gloves, and trash/litter pick up.
