Group Motion Dance Company Presents: Inside Dance
A unique look at the inside of dance!

Philadelphia, PA – Group Motion’s Inside Dance allows participants to experience the creative process first-hand. Participants will have the opportunity to view a company performance (Group Motion will be showing an excerpt of Laina Fischbeck’s The Memory of the Mass, a work inspired by past life regression experiences). Participants will be introduced to the improvisational and compositional structures used in the creation of the piece. Subsequently, participants are invited to either observe or actively participate in a reconstruction process. The performance and workshop will be accompanied by live music, providing participants with a full performance experience. Finally, when the piece is shown again, participants are able to re-examine the performance with a new understanding. The Memory of the Mass premiered at Group Motion’s Spiel Uhr February 16 and 17.

Group Motion Multi Media Dance Theatre is now a professional dance theater company of versatile artists, melding dance, theater, music and visual arts into a provocative performance experience. Founded in 1968 by co-directors Manfred
Fischbeck, Brigitta Herrmann and Hellmut Gottschild, Group Motion pioneered what was originally known as “multi-media dance/theater.” The diverse company, under the sole artistic direction of Manfred Fischbeck since 1989, carries members chosen for their technical and creative abilities – choreographers in their own rights – regularly contributing to a body of over 45 dance theater pieces. From historic appearances at the Judson Church in New York to sold-out international tours to countries including Germany, France, Argentina, Japan and Taiwan, Group Motion Company has been at the forefront of contemporary dance since its inception. Group Motion’s mission to make dance accessible to all people guides the company’s work as well as the various workshops the company offers. The infamous Friday Night Workshop, running every Friday night for almost 35 years is an example of improvisational movement and music made accessible to people of all walks of life.
