Philadelphia, PA – Group Motion presents the second installment of the 2007/2008 Spiel Uhr Series, Group Motion’s forum for presenting new work by local artists.  Spiel Uhr Returns is presented at the Meetinghouse Theater in the Community Education Center at 3500 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia’s University City District on February 16 and 17, 8pm.  Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students.

The evening’s work boasts six new dance works by established and emerging choreographers from the Philadelphia Dance Community as well as visiting artists.

Brigitta Herrmann, co-founder of Group Motion, will present excerpts from a work in progress, ”Physiognomy of the Spirit.”  This piece will premiere in May 2008 at the CEC.  The entire piece is supported in part by Dance Advance, a program of the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Heritage, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by The University of the Arts.

Former Group Motion Dancer and company co-Director Silvana Cardell will present a solo piece, “Vertex.”  The piece will reflect multiple points of views, intercepting a figure that moves in a restricted space framed by a tilted mirror and a live video that will reflect and project all possible points of views at once.  Cardell graduated from University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Modern Dance and Temple University with an MFA in Choreography.

Laina and Aura Fischbeck will also present original works.  Laina Fischbeck, a former Group Motion dancer currently living and working in France, will present a solo piece, “Premonitions” and an ensemble piece, “The Memory of the Mass.”  Both works will feature music by Peter Prince.  Aura Fischbeck is a San Francisco based choreographer, performer, writer, and teacher of movement.  She will be performing a solo work, “Compass.”  Group Motion Company dancer and graduate of the University of the Arts, John Luna, will also be presenting original work.  John Luna, artistic director of Kinetic Outlaws, presents work searching for an understated means of communicating the most honest, human moments.

********
Group Motion Multi Media Dance Theatre is a professional dance theater company of versatile artists, melding dance, theater, music and visual arts into a provocative performance experience. Founded in 1968 by co-directors Manfred Fischbeck, Brigitta Herrmann and Hellmut Gottschild, Group Motion pioneered what was originally known as “multi-media dance/theater.” The diverse company, under the sole artistic direction of Manfred Fischbeck since 1989, carries members chosen for their technical and creative abilities – choreographers in their own rights – regularly contributing to an extensive body of dance theater pieces. From historic appearances at the Judson Church in New York to international tours to countries including Germany, France, Argentina, Japan, Poland and Cyprus, Group Motion Company has been at the forefront of contemporary dance since its inception.  Through international collaborations such as the 2005 partnership with renowned Tokyo choreographer Akiko Kitamura and a recent notable collaboration with prominent Argentinean choreographer, Oscar Araiz, Group Motion continues to expose this important art form to new audiences in Philadelphia and throughout the world.   Group Motion’s mission to make dance accessible to all people guides the company’s work as well as the various workshops the company offers.  The Friday Night Workshop, running every Friday night for almost 35 years is an example of improvisational movement and music made accessible to people of all walks of life.

Group Motion is funded in part by William Penn Foundation; Dance Advance, a program funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by University of the Arts; The Japan-US Friendship Commission; Pennsylvania Council of the Arts/Arts Midwest; PennPat (Pennsylvania Performing Artists on Tour); and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund.
