Philadelphia Festivals Collaborative to Establish Philly as Festival Destination

FESTINPHILLY.COM NOW LIVE

PHILADELPHIA, PA…The “Fest in Philly” collaboration is a partnership of six established Philadelphia area festivals: The Philadelphia Film Festival (April 5-18); The Philadelphia International Children’s Festival (April 29-May 5); Odunde (June 8-10); The Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (July 12-24); Philadelphia Live Arts & Philly Fringe Festival (August 31-September 15); and The First Person Festival of Memoir and Documentary Art (November 7-11).

This initiative has grown out of a landmark collaboration of festivals from across Pennsylvania, brought together and supported by a joint effort by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office (PTO) and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) with leadership from Lenwood Sloan of PTO and Karl Blischke of PCA.  The encouragement of collaboration and connection among regional festivals is an innovative idea that benefits festival-goers, festivals, and the locations that serve as their homes.  The long-term potential and immediate excitement of the Philadelphia collaboration appealed to the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), and with guidance from Patricia Washington, GPTMC provided additional support.

Pennsylvania holds more festivals annually than any other state. We celebrate culture, music, film, performance, literature, the changing seasons, and more all year long – and the city of Philadelphia is a festival hub that presents some of the most exciting, innovative festivals in the nation – Philly knows how to Fest!

“Fest in Philly” was formed to serve as an information and interaction hub – giving potential festival-goers all the information they need to have an incredible Philadelphia festival experience.  The “Fest in Philly” Web site (www.festinphilly.com) includes specific information about each distinct festival, and, as the site develops, sneak previews, insider tips, festival audience reviews and photos that spread the word about how much fun it is to “Fest in Philly.”

The direct connection between successful cultural events and the economic benefits that are generated via connected tourism activity is clearly established.   The “Fest in Philly” collaboration is excited to help generate economic benefits for Philadelphia by making the city’s cultural opportunities even more attractive and easier to navigate.

“Fest in Philly’s” founding members see great potential for the collaborative Web site’s expansion to include information about Philadelphia’s mosaic of other festivals. Festinphilly.com is a living, evolving site that will grow to include information about many more Philadelphia area festivals, making it even deeper in its information value and wider in its audience reach! Just about any day of the year, some cultural, artistic, athletic, holiday, culinary, heritage, etc. celebration is going on in Philly.  Festinphilly.com helps people connect to the best of the Fest!
