Transit and Highway Maps
The best option for visiting University City is by taking public transportation. University City is served by train, subway, trolley, and bus. Download our latest transit map for more information. If you decide to drive — the University City area has two exits off the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76). Exit 39 (30th Street Station) and Exit 40 (South Street -- note that exit is from the left lane).
Parking
In addition to parking garages at the hospitals and hotels, several public garages and lots are located near University City's main attractions. Parking meters are plentiful, but be sure to have an abundant supply of quarters. Some streets are unmetered, but particularly during the academic year these spaces are scarce.
Train
30th Street Station is served by Amtrak and SEPTA commuter trains to suburban Philadelphia. SEPTA connects also with PATCO trains to New Jersey suburbs and to New Jersey Transit trains to Pennsylvania suburbs and Trenton, NJ. University City Station, on SEPTA's R1, R2, and R3 line, is located near the University of Pennsylvania Museum, Franklin Field, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania campus.
Subway
The Market-Frankford El ("the Blue Line") has stops at 30th Street, 34th, 40th, 46th, and 52nd Street. The fare is $2.00, $1.45 when tokens are purchased in advance. Passes also are sold. Be advised that the 40th and 46th Street stations do not sell tokens. In University City, purchase tokens at 30th Street, 34th Street, Rite-Aid pharmacies, and some check-cashing stores.
Bus
SEPTA runs many routes through University City.
