The University City name reflects the proximity of several acclaimed institutions of higher learning, including the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Lincoln University Urban Center, and The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College. Together, they attract more than 45,000 students per year. Topranked and award-winning, these colleges and universities help define the dynamic demographics of University City, while continually enhancing the neighborhood’s vitality. Consistently ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report and other publications, these colleges help make our rich, urban community a valued and special place. University City District believes in the importance of retaining college graduates and that they are critical to knowledge and creative industry employers, professional-services firms and to healthcare and educational institutions. We support organizations like Innovation Philadelphia, the Knowledge Industry Partnership, and Campus Philly who work tirelessly to engage college students and to attract and retain young professional knowledge workers. In addition, University City serves its student population at an early age, with excellent daycare and after school programs such as those at the Parent Infant Center, which enable children to grow and learn in a safe, stimulating, and loving environment. As well, University City offers a worldclass public school, The Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander University of Pennsylvania Partnership School, which brings the most effective, research proven educational practices into the classroom |
